Cordell, officially New Cordell, is the county seat of Washita County, Oklahoma, southwest of our Weatherford office. It lies along U.S. Route 183. The first Cordell post office opened in 1892 in a general store about a mile and a half east of the present town, and the community moved to its current site about 1900. The Washita County Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
